...'D'

...'D'
Perche?

For now the second D can signify discovering enlightenment, or better, becoming a Buddha. Yes, it is possible. Unfortunately for many years the message that has been transmitted by most Buddhists and in particular Buddhist teachers is that it's a nice idea, but not really for us. Why is this? Is it because we're not good enough? Because we drink grappa? Because we have dirty thoughts about Megan Fox or George Clooney, or both?
Enlightenment has become a dream that ultimately turned into a fantasy similar to the desire to win the lottery. Liberation and awakening however take place in the here and now. First you must decide what you wish to be free of; jealousy, anxiety, insecurity, constant doubt. Then it is possible to learn how to free yourself from it.
Part of the problem is the term enlightenment, which is defined in many traditions as something so in human, so abstract, so rare and so incredible that it's unlikely anyone will ever obtain it. This leaves the goal and practice to being that of becoming a better person. This however is not the message that the Buddha gave us. He told us in his first teaching that you can awaken and free yourself from suffering, and here is how.
For pragmatic purposes I personally like to view the goal of the path as awakening. This is because you can tangibly & realistically go through processes of awakening. Awakening is accumulative. I also think the word liberation is much more practical because you can actually liberate yourself from something. In this way progress can be measured and can be understood.

Practice can concern itself with waking us to the here and now and liberating us from everything that prevents us from doing this. This is a path of practice that you and I can follow and make great progress in. This is great news.

Better news however is that a super-enlightened master said that when you become a Buddha, you get a free T-shirt. See below for size and model.
